2025 has been a year of quality over quantity and that can only be a good thing. Year on year it seems as though there are more albums being released to the point I'm drowning in new music. So it's refreshing to get to mid November and only have 43* albums in my list. Another noticeable thing from this year is the number of female fronted bands, or all female bands for that matter.

There have been excellent albums from Lorelle Meets The Obsolete, Wet Leg, Water From Your Eyes, Wombo, The New Eves, Mhaol and Horsegirl to name a few. Including my album of the year from Rún. The Irish band's self titled debut album on Rocket Recordings is dark and witchy, sometimes folky, sometimes heavy but it's Tara Baoth Mooney's vocals that set it apart from anything else. I've already seen a few end of year lists posted online and I can't believe this album isn't even on them.

Away from the female fronted bands we had Songs From The Free House from Smote. Possibly the heaviest album of the year, after seeing them live I can appreciate the sheer power a little more. Ty Segall returned with his best album in a while and Squid showed why they're the best band from the so called Windmill scene.
